Mental Health Counseling FAQ
Are you a therapist or a counselor?
I’m both! The terms are interchangeable depending on context. I am licensed in Washington State as a Mental Health Counselor and the billable service I provide is individual psychotherapy. I have a master’s degree which allows me to provide talk therapy and diagnose many mental health conditions. There are multiple levels of education and scopes of practice in the mental health field. If you are in need of a specific service, like ADHD/neurodivergency testing and diagnosing or medication prescribing, we can work together to identify an appropriate provider.
What services do you provide?
I provide individual therapy services in your choice of setting:
1. Face-to-Face in a private office in Kennewick, WA. Featuring comfortable seating and mediocre instant coffee.
2. Virtual Visits through HIPAA compliant video conferencing, available across Washington State. Pet introductions mandatory.
3. Walk & Talk; Let the rhythm of your steps help you move through tough stuff.
Who do you see?
– Adults ages 18+
– Any/All gender identity
– English speaking, translators or interpreters welcome
What concerns do you treat?
I am open to helping you explore any of life’s issues. I have experience or special interest in a few things: Life transitions, self-esteem and image, non-traditional life paths, LGBTQIA+, loneliness, burnout, perfectionism, anxiety/depression/mood, grief, stress, substance use and abuse
What’s your therapy approach?
I prefer an integrated approach of multiple theories and methods. Your concerns, your current needs, and our relationship will help determine which method or combination is right for you. Generally, I will use a holistic/humanistic approach with consideration for presence, mindfulness, and the mind-body connection. I rely on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy for teachable skills and techniques and am trained to provide EMDR for trauma reprocessing.
How much does it cost?
60 minute sessions are a flat rate of $140. Initial phone consultations, up to 30 minutes, are free of charge. A sliding scale fee can be discussed for those with financial constraints. I am contracted with Lyra Health for covered sessions if offered by your employer.
Do you take insurance?
I am not currently taking insurance and am not in network with any insurance provider. I accept direct payment for all services. Superbills, statements, and invoices will be provided to you for submission to your insurance company. These can be used towards your deductible, and potentially an out of network reimbursement paid to you. I accept HSA/FSA card payments. I am contracted with Lyra Health for covered sessions if offered by your employer.
How do I get scheduled?
– Call 509-856-8513 for an initial consultation. We will briefly discuss your concerns, cover any process questions, and have a chance to “meet” to decide if we are a good fit for each other.
